snoopy-thanksgiving

To all my American friends! We may not celebrate it here, but I thought I'd just let you know that I'm thankful to have you in my lives. *hugs*

Enjoy your day, and think of me as I attend the world's most boring meeting for work, which is going to last all day. *yawn* Oh well, at least they give us lunch. It won't be turkey, but it had better be tasty. It's the only reason I'm going!

haldoor: the road is long, with many a winding turn (misc-notice)
I seem to be on hiatus. Just so you know that I haven't died. Work is crazy, life marginally less so, but my brain has been offline. (Okay so I went all gooshy over YT eps of Will & Sonny from Days of Our Lives for one afternoon and I also re-read old threads I wrote as Tiger in the Eagle's Nest RPG which took seriously way too long. Does anyone even remember that RPG or the fic by [livejournal.com profile] sindahise that spawned it? OMG, it was unbelievable - it, my friends, was what got me into LJ and writing in the first place, right after [livejournal.com profile] niceandfluffy introduced me to the pleasures of LJ back in 2005 *sigh*).

September is often a time of nostalgia and reflection for me, and I often fall off the world during it, despite the fact it's spring here and I really should be a lot more forward-thinking. But the good news is that once this week is over, 1/ It will be school holidays, 2/ The builder may actually start VERY soon, 3/ The pressure will be off at work for a while, and 4/ Daylight Saving starts, so the weather will seriously begin to get better!

*hugs* to all the flist and I'll be back as soon as I can.

Madness!

haldoor: the road is long, with many a winding turn (amusement-bigger boat)
Since when did September become such a mad month? I have no idea but it's crazy! I can't keep up with anything at the moment: so behind on LJ and Twitter, don't really FB enough for it to count, and we're rushing around at home like crazy too. Our builder may be able to start in a couple of weeks, so we've been emptying the garage and I have a ton of things lying around to be sold that I'm attempting to organise. Work is also mad - we have an appraisal period ending when Sept. does, so everyone wants their work done yesterday, which means push, push, push, and no slacking off.

Phew. The tiny bit of sanity (?) in between the madness is writing fic with [livejournal.com profile] kaige68! My darlink, you raise me up! Yes, Kaige and I have been writing more H50 with Steve and Danny. It's completely mad too, but so much fun. I squeeze in a part when I can, and it all started here when Kaige wrote THE BEST EVER cargument. We're having so much fun, even though I'm having problems fitting my parts in. We'll get there though.

Oh, also managed to get to the movies last night as a reward for getting most of the rest of our stuff out of the garage and under the house (or into the basement as some people might say), which is half dirt and half concrete, so needed rearranging and some shelves organised so precious-ish items didn't have to sit on the dirt. Phew, all done now and not too cluttered, to my great surprise. I can even still access the wood for the fire and the hay for the pets, and the bikes are also easy to reach. Stunning. I do have a wonderful husband. ♥

The movie was 'Savages' ([livejournal.com profile] crickets, thank you for the rec!) and it was very good. Of course, I'd hoped for a little more man-on-man action, since it features two guys with one girlfriend, but that wasn't terribly forthcoming (although there were hints). However, it was still a good movie which the hubby and I both enjoyed very much. Great action, neat double-crossing, and some pretty awful happenings that made us think. Beautifully stylish too, and my girl-crush Salma Hayek was awesome. ;-) Update: just ordered the book from my library!

Now, onwards! Things to do and stuff. So sorry I won't be catching up on flist right now, *sigh* but I will try to get there soon! Love and laughter to you all! *hugs*

Dammit!

Why isn't there more time!!!!??? I can't fit everything in! Suggestions welcome.

The good news: It's not only Friday but I'm in charge at work today, BWAHAHAHAHA.

By 'in charge' I mean I'm opening up. Okay, so I don't actually get any other powers.
haldoor: the road is long, with many a winding turn (hitchhiker's guide-earth 42)
This morning was awful. I woke up around eight as a text came on my cellphone (lucky it was in my room, really, I often ignore it for days). I nearly left it, but had to answer nature's call so I decided to read it. It was a message from a workmate asking me to phone her at work as there was some bad news. I felt a bit hesitant, wondering what kind of bad news, but I still phoned.

The sad news was this )
haldoor: the road is long, with many a winding turn (Default)
I had a lovely relaxing time with the Hubby & kids, and got lots of lovely pressies with a fair quota of chocolate thrown in, so I have few complaints.

(although there was breakfast at Denny's and no work actually done at work today, plus strawberries and ice cream, as well as leaving early *grin* No work now til Wednesday, woo!)

Here it is, November. Did no-one tell the weather gods that this means it's supposed to be warm in NZ? last night was freezing after the wild winds and driving rain! I was really glad I hadn't swapped the winter duvet or put away the extra blanket the other week when I took the electric blankets off our bed. And I was still cold... tried snuggling up to the Hubby (men are always warmer) but he kept moving away. That would be why we both ended uup on his half of the bed by this morning. Dammit, he's not a natural cuddler.

And then, today, as I'm driving to work... not a whisper of wind to be seen, and it's looking like a reasonable day, though there's still cloud about, so it may fool me yet. Considering all the wind damage mentioned on the news last night, I cannot understand it. Still cold though, but that could just be because it's the usual setting of the a/c here at work: Antarctica.

Okay, work calls. Been here for an hour and a half, done nothing. After yesterday, I really had better do something with the two hours I have left. Thank God for getting ahead earlier in the week.

Note to self: Don't forget to stop and buy stamps for the Christmas cards on the way home!
haldoor: the road is long, with many a winding turn (johnny-not my day)
...but I'm just going to say one:

I HATE MY JOB

Because life ain't much fun there at the moment. I'm not supposed to be in here either, but I needed to let that out.

*waves to flist* Not much time these days, sorry.
haldoor: the road is long, with many a winding turn (Default)
Well, it wasn't too bad, it can certainly be worse, but my mind does tend to waver after about 11.30... and I promise I did manage quite a bit of work before the mush set in!

There, that feels better already, right?

An example of how things go at my work on a GOOD Tuesday for a change: )

Okay, I'm so pleased with myself, I'm polishing the medal for the chest I'm hoping to be awarded with! HA!

Today I worked at work all day! Okay, apart from three little tiny dips into e-mail, but that's allowed, right?

Yesterday, I finally made a baby card for userinfoniceandfluffy, who only had her baby almost two months ago.

Yay, go me!

Hmm, now if only I can get two more cards made and remember where I hid the rest of the gifts for everyone...

Well, it's LF's 4th birthday today - WOW! My big boy is four. And like every mother before me, I'm wondering how did that happen? It hardly seems that long ago when I was going into hospital to have him. Still remember it clear as day. Hard work (induced Fri morning, not born til Sat night), but worth it. And he's been hard work ever since! HA! Well, and worth it too, of course. Lovely sweet thing that he is. We're just doing family stuff today, and he's having a little party on Sunday afternoon. Mum's job? To make a "Lightning McQueen" cake. Oh boy, there's a challenge! (for Sunday. Today he's getting a plain round chocolate cake!).

Need to do this: One long cool drink of water on the rocks, please!

Yeah, my day started off like that. And it didn't really improve until a lot later. But, it did get better, so if you can't be bothered checking out the rant under the cut, don't sweat it! Oh, and this is for you:

Just having a Hugh moment. And that *points* is very niiiice.

Three Four Okay, Five things:

1. I'm doing this at work - it's Tuesday for *insert deity*'s sake!

2. We had our first fire for the winter season last night (mmm, toasty warm, no going back now).

3. I'm still f*cked in the head due to lack of sleep. Don't ask.

4. I don't eat nuts, nor do I dip them. So there.

5. I can do short posts, I can! See?

*snore*

I'm actually going to bed, so WTF I'm writing here for, I have no idea. Just thought I'd tell you I flagged the stupid $4 and fudged the audit. It just wasn't worth the effort for freakin' $4. And that's Kiwi$, not even Aussie$ (ie, worth half that in most other places). I mean??? The client won't know. It was in her favour, and the only issue will be if it gets audited, which it shouldn't as I didn't have to alter the computer record in any way. 'Sides, my QA said it was okay, wasn't worth the $ they pay me to search any more.

In other news )
haldoor: the road is long, with many a winding turn (karl-peekaboo)
...and quite clearly failing.

I would have had a really really good day, working really really hard if only four bloody dollars hadn't decided to get lost in the audit I'm doing at work. Damn, where could it have gone? I am so good at these things usually when I set my mind to them. Today, it's FARKEN lost and I can't find it.

In desperation and frustration, I am here, when I promised myself I wouldn't be. *sigh*

Other mysteries (points awarded for anyone who solves them):

1. Who is that in the pic in [livejournal.com profile] lostjane's latest post? (He's familiar, but I can't quite figure it out)

2. When will [livejournal.com profile] kaige68 be back online again at home? (I miss her dreadfully)

3. How many people read my posts but never comment on them? (cos I'm curious like that)

4. Will I fall asleep before I have to run around like a headless chook tonight after my daughters? (who have Brownies, Guides & gym between the two of them)

5. Why do whales beach themselves? (best imaginative answers get extra points)

Okay, I'm not posting any comments in anyone else's LJ right now because that way I can pretend say that I didn't really fail in my ambition to not enter LJ from work today...

Posting comments will occur later, after headless chook gets chooklets in bed. Hopefully. *sigh*
haldoor: the road is long, with many a winding turn (ducky)
As I was telling [livejournal.com profile] sindahise earlier (apologies, my dear, don't read again, I copied from MSN), I'm beginning to think Tiger's psychic skills are passing into my RL, for a few reasons...

First off, I picked up this file to do at work today, that I'd had lying around for ages as thought I'd better get onto it; and two of my supervisors come up a while later & one says the name of the client. I said "I'm working on it right now", and he said, "That's funny because I just had a call from her" ...and the other supervisor says "Didn't this happen last time?" and sure enough, when I thought about it, the last time I looked at her file, she had just called one of them and they came over while I was working on it...

Second thing: I went to my car to go home, and the car decided not to start - dead as a doornail. Usually when that happens, I call AA straight away (battery, I'd guess), but this time, I called my hubby and said I may be late, then told him I was just going to look under the hood... which I don't normally do, so I looked, pushed slightly on the battery connection, which I'm sure didn't move. Then I thought "nope" and got back in the car, but some little niggle in the back of my head said "it will work now" and guess what? It did!

Now I know why I also had Tiger's headache and lethargy after that last View on the RPG... *twilight zone music plays*

Now this:

I know I've been talking busy for a while, and said I'd do a catch up at some point, but honestly... Do you seriously expect me, "Memory of a Goldfish" Haldoor, to remember anything past last lunchtime?

What springs to mind )
haldoor: the road is long, with many a winding turn (alf)
Ok, since it's Friday, and dinner's nearly ready, I'm going for a quick good things list before I have to jump out of here!

1. Hardly worked at all, all week (which is good and bad all at once...)

2. Free shopping day Wednesday with the comps at work down for THREE hours! Ah, it's good when that happens just as you panic about Xmas shopping!

3. Sick day yesterday - felt better after the Panadol, and did some fun posting on the RPG with Coyote, James and Jackal.

4. Kindergarten rang this week (pre-school in NZ), and YAY! LF can start at the end of January when school goes back after the summer hols! Just what I wanted! (though my eyes teared up at the thought of my baby taking his first steps away from home!!!)

5. LJ gave us freebie-cheapsters THREE more icons for Christmas! YAYHOO! I went crazy... okay, so not very, now I have six though - double the fun!

6. Hubby's cooking dinner! and it's Friday!!!!

7. Found out today that my Aunt's going to be a Nana at long last! Excited for her! My cousin is pregnant, and due in June! Actually, it's the second person in as many days that I've heard is pregnant (the other's here somewhere *waggles eyebrows*) and both are due around the same time, how funny is that? Haven't had any pregnant friends or family for ages.

8. Choice of movies tonight: Matt Dillon (eyebrows, and those drop-dead gorgeous brown eyes *sigh*) in "Beautiful Girls" (I've not seen before) or Johnny Depp in "Dead Man" on dvd... could watch the dvd later, hmmm. Maybe both?

9. Bought myself a treat to sleep in the other day, sexy skimpy sleepwear, which I NEVER usually do. Must be the humidity getting to me! Hubby liked it too *grin*

10. Actually bought shoes this week!!!! Me, the one woman in the world who does NOT have a shoe fetish. I now have 9 (yes, count 'em) pairs of shoes to my name, including slippers, gumboots and jandals. I finally found some summer work sandals that are comfy, flat (not a heels girl) and best of all, cheap like me. *grins like a cheshire cat*

Sorry, [livejournal.com profile] kaige68 that I didn't get to the 'Jeremy is...' today, but maybe tomorrow?

Hope you enjoy the recipes, [livejournal.com profile] mrsbean, even though they're probably nothing terrifically spectacular! Let me know how they go!

YEEHA! Made it through another week!
haldoor: the road is long, with many a winding turn (sawyer)
Today was going to be WORK VERY HARD DAY as I seem to have failed on all counts lately.

Yesterday my brain was sushi before I even arrived at work, due to throwing up breakfast whilst trying to clean my teeth. Involuntary bulimia is really no fun. Sorry, TMI, I know. Went to work anyway, headache and all - took Panadol at work, survived but didn't work much. File from hell took my sushi-brain and turned it into jellied eels. (wonders: do actual real bulimics get headaches every time they throw up?)

Today, I was determined I would finish said file from hell. HA BLOODY HA!. I get to work, start on the e-m I owed [livejournal.com profile] kaige68 (okay, technically this is not work, but once out of the way, work was the plan!!!), then half-way through... computers go ape-shit, phones bite the dust. We are told: "It may take some time to fix this."

Permission granted after an hour for us all to go SHOPPING!!!!!!. "Don't hurry back!" seems to be the order of the day. OMG, I do get some breaks!!! In the words of Tom Petty: "Even the losers get lucky sometimes." So, 2 & 1/2 hours later, the two of us that took an office car (yes!) out to the local mall (some others went another direction and they aren't even back yet, a further 1 & 1/2 hour later!!!) came back laden down with many Xmas goodies for loved ones.

Someone was watching over me today - it's even our big department store's one day sale today only. Lots of bargains. *grin*

This makes me feel like one thing is totally obvious: I am not meant to work. Now, if I could just win a lottery to support me in this, life would be really wonderful. 'Cause lord knows, I don't have a rich husband, or one who has the potential to earn enough that I don't have to work, dammit. He is awfully good at housework though *smiles thankfully*, and some other useful stuff, which we won't go into just now!

Nearly time to go home now. Not a stroke of work done. Not one. Not even half of one. Bloody brilliant!
