Yeah, my day started off like that. And it didn't really improve until a lot later. But, it did get better, so if you can't be bothered checking out the rant under the cut, don't sweat it! Oh, and this is for you:

Just having a Hugh moment. And that *points* is very niiiice.
…of a beleaguered public servant:
6am: Too tired really. Can’t be bothered with anything much, feeling shitty and much like abandoning work today, but have stuff that cannot be delayed. Get ready and go anyway.
7am: Get to desk, feeling pissed off already. See something I handed back to be added to before I complete my work (due to new instructions re auditing) has had instructions over-ruled by Senior Manager. What is the point of following new instructions? More pissed off. Manage (just) to refrain from checking personal e-m (for a change) as made plan to WORK today and not look at that until 10am.
8am: Get asked to do something “quick” because it won’t take long (given soft excuses as to why this is valid), when instructions for this type of request have specifically been made to stop such interruptions from slowing me and my co-workers down from the main part of our job now that four of us are dealing with seven people’s work. Try to explain this to requester, but she needs it now, not listening. Understand her point of view, and do work to save argument, but distinctly not impressed.
8.30am: Getting more pissed off. Person who was asked to do something for me on Tuesday has still not done it. Sent e-m yesterday to ask when it would be done, had no response. Phone her this morning. She is very pleasant and says it will be done today. I cannot finish shitty file until it’s done. Steam begins to exit ears, but I remain calm and thank her.
9am: Many phone call interruptions have already annoyed the hell out of me (why can’t OM answer a few more of them, dammit?), and OM keeps getting me to authorise her work in between me trying to concentrate on my own, not to mention asking me many questions about the work she is doing (This is typical, so I should be used to it). Actually get a compliment on the letter I wrote to a client, from one of the hardest bastards to please in the office. Wonders will never cease. However, he points out an error I made in the notes, which I correct (very minor typo). Not really any more impressed than I was before.
9.30am: Go to morning tea. Kitchen is FREEZING. Go back for coat and put it on. I kid you not, the rest of the office (which is incidentally like Antarctica in summer) is toasty warm and pleasant, but lunch-room is arctic. No teabags in teabag container either and it’s not my turn for kitchen duty *sigh*. Refill container anyway, and stay for ½ hour at tea instead of allowed 15 mins just to show my rebellion for temperature, which I’m assuming is to encourage us not to linger.
10am: Grumpy but warm again, check e-m. There are messages to make me feel better! Yay! Eg:
seadragon68 has done another bit of our Sultan Oded fic, and the ensuing warmth through my system indicates good things are to follow next week! Thanks, love! And
kaige68 has sent me a JI!!!! Yay! She keeps me going, she does. *Especially big smooches* to you, babe.
10.30am: Feeling slightly better. Only have to work til 1.30pm today, and I have a half-hour lunch break in there somewhere. Arrange movie rendezvous with Hubby and the kids for after I finish work. Things start to look up. Return to work properly.
11.45am: Still working on shitty file. Yes, it is the same shitty file that should the woman return that left me with this crumbling ruin of a mountain I have to rebuild, she will be killed! *imagines King Kong throwing her from top of Empire State Building and Godzilla jumping on her!* Shitty, shitty file. Still not making sense. *grinds teeth* On visit to loo via kitchen am pleased to note it is no longer the Arctic Circle and has become Equatorial Guinea.
Noon: Go to lunch. Bask in tropical paradise for half-hour. Open eyes and realise that no, that isn’t Johnny Depp for real (tis just the POTC pic on the cover of the Time-Out magazine. Aye, me hearties!), and return to work.
1.15pm: Right, that’s enough. Freakin’ shitty file still hasn’t balanced, though I have discovered where the error seems to be. If I can just work out WHAT IT IS, I will be quids in. Give up for today though, Monday is another work-day, and I have tomorrow off. Note: person who promised me on the phone this morning that she would do that thing for me today still has not done it. More steam emitted from ears briefly, but then decide "Oh, who cares?" and decide to check personal e-m’s.
1.30pm: Leave office, race madly through traffic to meet family at mall for cinema visit. Get there just on time to find that every other man and his dog have decided to visit the mall as it is a rainy day in the school holidays. Takes 10 minutes to find parking space, and that just as I was beginning to panic that I would not make it before movie started.
2pm: Catch family just as they are about to enter cinema late, and we all go in together *phew*, however seating is at a premium, and the girls and I sit on one side, one behind each other in the end seats on each of three rows (in a row, thank goodness!), and Hubby & LF sit in a couple of seats right over the other side. Movie (CARS) has already started *sigh* but it appears we haven't missed too much, thank goodness!
3.45pm: We leave cinema, I have managed NOT to fall asleep which, I might say, is close to a miracle. Everyone enjoyed the movie, which was LF's first ever trip to the cinema, and he didn't ask to go out even once! Hubby reports he was very good, and only got restless in about the last half-hour! Fantastic!
4pm: Let the girls go on the bungee-jump trampoline thingies that are at the mall for the holidays, which they have wanted to do since forever! $10 each for about 5 minutes, but they had fun, so it was worth it! Then took them to buy winter pajamas, as they have been refusing to wear winter nighties that were perfectly acceptable last year... and have been wearing skimpy summer pj's *shivers*.
5.30pm: Arrived home behind Hubby & LF, as they left halfway through the shopping expedition since we had two cars there. Dinner was underway and the fire lit! YAY! (although I did have to go outside to get more firewood...)
So there you have it. Perhaps not entirely typical of my days, but it did get better at the end, I'm glad to say! I'm pretty tired again now, and looking forward to just laying in front of a movie tonight, not to mention looking forward to not going to work tomorrow!
Sleep-ins RULE!
Woo! (Sorry, another long one, but some days are like that)
