haldoor: the road is long, with many a winding turn (johnny-haldoor)
Jeez, what am I doing here when I should be in bed?

I guess it has something to do with Being Home Alone. ALL WEEKEND! The cats and I have had the best time catching up on stuff we don't usually do. Okay, the cats usually do the same stuff every day, and let's face it, I pretty much do too ;-) but it's so cool not to have to worry about what everyone else is up to, nor put up with kids arguing, Hubby fussing about money, and everyone interrupting me when I'm trying to write.

Now, I wonder if I can write some more words tomorrow. 1192 so far this weekend, and all of it on a one-shot that's new. I have so many WIPs that it's not funny. My one aim for 2014 is to finish as many of them as I can.

Oh, watched quite a good movie tonight too: 'Devil'. It's an M. Night Shyalaman (sp?) one - he likes his twists. Okay, it's not his best, but I was intrigued and it was kinda creepy, and psychologically freaky there for a bit.

Probably time I got some sleep now! :D
haldoor: the road is long, with many a winding turn (1_mill_words-august rush)
I've been working hard all month on getting the pics up at the August Rush Challenge at [livejournal.com profile] 1_million_words, so I haven't been writing as much as I often do, but I managed five banners for the first two weeks of the challenge, and decided that I'd do another five that spoke to me for the second two weeks as well.

My first five (one for each fandom) are here if you want to see them and missed them earlier.

The second five - again, one for each fandom )
haldoor: the road is long, with many a winding turn (1_mill_words-august rush)
yesterday, I wasn't feeling the words, but I had time to play around with some graphics, so these are what I came up with from the pics I'd chosen over the last couple of weeks at [livejournal.com profile] 1_million_words August Rush challenge.

Here be five banners - I've chosen one pic for each fandom from random days; just whatever appealed to me as something I could caption )

Most of you know where I live, so you won't be surprised to know how proud I am of all things Lord of the Rings and Hobbit movie oriented. ;-)

Someone recently e-mailed this short clip to me (about 6 mins long) about some of the scenery used in The Hobbit, so I thought I'd share it with any of you who might like to see it and haven't already. I've been to a few of these places, although I haven't actually seen the film sets - although with luck I am joining [livejournal.com profile] ellel on a trip to Hobbiton when she's in NZ in December (so excited about that!!!).

Sorry I can't manage to embed it here (I am a geek in such the wrong way, after all), but here is the link, which makes it come out in full-screen anyway: http://www.youtube.com/watch_popup?feature=player_embedded&v=RRA_eVAyH5c

ENJOY! ;-)

1.This day in 1893, NZ women got to vote in their first general election! NZ was the first country in the world to give women the vote. Thank you Kate Shepherd and all your fellow suffragettes and hard workers.

2. The Hobbit premiere is tonight NZ time! They rolled the red carpet out in Wellybob yesterday and anyone who is anyone will be down there checking out the new movie. I wish I could be there, but there was no way to justify that spending. Anyway, I'm sure I'll watch some of it on TV tonight, as one of the channels has a special on from 4pm (not that I'm home by then, but I'll watch some later). I'm not taping because I imagine there will be a lot of nothing going on for much of it, but I'll poke my nose in when I can.

Happy Hobbit Day!

Madness!

haldoor: the road is long, with many a winding turn (amusement-bigger boat)
Since when did September become such a mad month? I have no idea but it's crazy! I can't keep up with anything at the moment: so behind on LJ and Twitter, don't really FB enough for it to count, and we're rushing around at home like crazy too. Our builder may be able to start in a couple of weeks, so we've been emptying the garage and I have a ton of things lying around to be sold that I'm attempting to organise. Work is also mad - we have an appraisal period ending when Sept. does, so everyone wants their work done yesterday, which means push, push, push, and no slacking off.

Phew. The tiny bit of sanity (?) in between the madness is writing fic with [livejournal.com profile] kaige68! My darlink, you raise me up! Yes, Kaige and I have been writing more H50 with Steve and Danny. It's completely mad too, but so much fun. I squeeze in a part when I can, and it all started here when Kaige wrote THE BEST EVER cargument. We're having so much fun, even though I'm having problems fitting my parts in. We'll get there though.

Oh, also managed to get to the movies last night as a reward for getting most of the rest of our stuff out of the garage and under the house (or into the basement as some people might say), which is half dirt and half concrete, so needed rearranging and some shelves organised so precious-ish items didn't have to sit on the dirt. Phew, all done now and not too cluttered, to my great surprise. I can even still access the wood for the fire and the hay for the pets, and the bikes are also easy to reach. Stunning. I do have a wonderful husband. ♥

The movie was 'Savages' ([livejournal.com profile] crickets, thank you for the rec!) and it was very good. Of course, I'd hoped for a little more man-on-man action, since it features two guys with one girlfriend, but that wasn't terribly forthcoming (although there were hints). However, it was still a good movie which the hubby and I both enjoyed very much. Great action, neat double-crossing, and some pretty awful happenings that made us think. Beautifully stylish too, and my girl-crush Salma Hayek was awesome. ;-) Update: just ordered the book from my library!

Now, onwards! Things to do and stuff. So sorry I won't be catching up on flist right now, *sigh* but I will try to get there soon! Love and laughter to you all! *hugs*

Phew...

Talk about madness... just got rid of the last of the mess from having two separate sleepovers this weekend, am glad to say.

I know I haven't been around much this week, but it's not been for bad reasons, though some of what's under the cut may seem like madness!

Good and bad things; craziness too, I expect! Oh, and pimping Blue Rodeo like you wouldn't believe, and I'm not even Canadian! )
haldoor: the road is long, with many a winding turn (hamster-has spoken)
Like movies? TV? Novels? Music? Can you answer yes to all of these? You can? Is that enough questions?

Well, then, I have something for you! Please go check out [livejournal.com profile] t_h_e_hamster. It's a very small comm I'm running whereby all the members offer their own opinion on various movies and TV shows they've seen, novels they've read and music they've enjoyed. It's small and friendly - it won't clog your flist - and no deadlines! Just post a review when you feel like you have something to share. And, of course, come and read otherwise! Pimp it out to your friends if you like; the more the merrier! It's very slash friendly, but all other reviews are welcome too. It's a place to find things of interest, share your own recs (other than fanfic) and to enjoy the company of like-minded flisters. Please check out the latest review by my good friend [livejournal.com profile] gregoria44 about the movie Labyrinth for a fine example.

Here's that comm name again:

I have a bunch of icons over there in the user pics if anyone wants one, but does anyone have the skills to do a banner we can use for it? I'd love you for life if you did us one! (or might be convinced to write you a ficlet). Thanks, my friends - you may now return to your scheduled viewing! *passes the popcorn*

Phew!

THE HOBBIT STAYS IN NZ!

Thank you to all the listening deities.

That is all.

even if the Donkey did have to make a deal with WB, it was worth it.
haldoor: the road is long, with many a winding turn (josh-wet love)
Hmm, could be worse... might have to swallow the TC dislike, but eh, it's way down the track and I'll probably see it on TV years after everyone else, so it's highly irrelevant. I'd just like to see Josh get a decent career after Lost, so I'm gonna be glad and hopeful for him. ;-)

Meme via [livejournal.com profile] mrs_sean_bean:

Put "I've seen ____ of these 168 movies" in the subject line and repost. If you've seen over 85 movies, you have no life. Mark the ones you've seen. There are 168 movies on this list.

Many many movies )

Apparently, I have a life. Hmm, wonder where it is *looks under the cushions*
haldoor: the road is long, with many a winding turn (I want to believe)
Well, sleeping in would have been nice.

But -

Woken at 8.30 by kids getting presents ready: not so good!

Presents: very good! (CD, writing paper, craft things, purple singlet-top, chocolates!)

Breakfast: pikelets (mini-pancakes) with butter and golden syrup (liquid sugar)

Argument between N1D and N2D at the table: not so good.

Chores: not great, but essential, dammit.

Online time: Excellent!

Yahoo e-mail being a bastard: ASSHOLES! I can see my e-mail, but I cannot read it. How's that for wonderful? Anyone else experiencing such joy this weekend? I'm hoping it's just yahoo-au, and not the whole world as at least one other person told me their's is okay. I just hope it's not my damned computer playing up again... *sigh*

The rest of the day: bugger all, probably, as Hubby's cooking dinner (yay!) and it's too cold to care about doing lots. The kids have just put "The Triplets of Belleville" on again. If you've never watched this, you should! We watched it yesterday and it's a great little cartoon with virtually no speaking except in French occasionally. Some most amusing things, and it's very stylishly made. Suitable for the whole family (and you don't often get that recommendation here!)... if you don't mind a dancing woman with her tits out for about 2 minutes (and it is a cartoon).

Watched FOUR episodes of series one of SG-1 last night! It's all [livejournal.com profile] green_grrl's fault. But it is fun *grin*. Looks like I'm going to have to keep going. [livejournal.com profile] kaige68 keeps talking about S6...

Oh, and before I forget (mind you, I missed a lot more than I ever remember), yesterday was [livejournal.com profile] niceandfluffy's birthday! HAPPY (belated)BIRTHDAY, chook!
haldoor: the road is long, with many a winding turn (sandpic)
But it's 11.30pm, and although I'm not working tomorrow, I'm a bit tired and I've promised the girlies I will take them to the movies tomorrow morning while their brother is at Kindy (although the strop that caused in LF when I inadvertently let that cat out of the bag was not good - had to lie and say we'll go another day! *ulp* But we may actually ALL go some other time over the long weekend, so not a complete lie). "Charlotte's Web" tomorrow and maybe a cartoon over the weekend at this rate!

Summer, eh? LF was back at Kindy this week from Tues, but the girls don't go back to school til the Wed 7th. I'm not working now til then myself - Tues is NZ's national holiday, Waitangi Day (the Kiwi equivalent of Independence day for want of a better description, though it has caused more controversy than not over the years... and we don't make quite such a big event of it, it's just a day off work - oh, except when it falls on a weekend, then we get ZIP). Anyway, I needed to be home for the girls tomorrow morning because of no school and the hubby being at work, so I decided I may as well have Monday off too and be done with it. YAY! Five day weekend! Woo! Like I've worked so hard over January... no full weeks since the last week before Christmas!

So will hopefully do the beach thing here in the next 5 days. For now, you can have the icon I made out of my sand pic. Have a good end to your own weekends, and may your winter not be too cold (Summer finally got decent over here, btw).
haldoor: the road is long, with many a winding turn (Default)
I had a lovely relaxing time with the Hubby & kids, and got lots of lovely pressies with a fair quota of chocolate thrown in, so I have few complaints.

haldoor: the road is long, with many a winding turn (johnny-forgot)
Which explains a hell of a lot.

Won't be going to "POTC2" on Fri, no-one to mind LF (who I doubt will make it through that length of a live-action film, even if he did manage "Cars" last week, and is going to "Over the Hedge" with Hubby & the girls tomorrow). Maybe the weekend...

Anyway: "House" is on tonight, so here's RSL:

Yeah, my day started off like that. And it didn't really improve until a lot later. But, it did get better, so if you can't be bothered checking out the rant under the cut, don't sweat it! Oh, and this is for you:

Just having a Hugh moment. And that *points* is very niiiice.

A day in the life… )

So, starting form last week, let's think...

Well, before I do that, there's this (thanks for more of these fun things, Amy!):

Which poem are you?

Jabberwocky by Lewis Carroll

Oh, you're silly! People probably think you're a bit kooky, but those nuts just don't realize that you've got a language all your own. But hey, you always bring a smile to people's faces.

Ten Good Things )
haldoor: the road is long, with many a winding turn (repressed)
1. Bought tiles for the bathroom yesterday! 25% discount too, woo!

2. The whole family swam at the wave pool and used their showers yesterday while the bathroom continues to be out of action!

3. Actually worked HARD today!

4. The shower is ready to be used! They finished it today!

5. Underfloor heating man came today and fitted that (so can't actually use the shower til tomorrow morn, but... everything else on schedule, so not complaining)

6. The tiler will (hopefully) be here tomorrow! (don't wanna jinx it by not adding "hopefully")

7. Watched "Monster's Ball" on Sat night with the Hubby - very good, even with the suicide bit (poor Heath!)

8. Tiger got to translocate on the EN RPG! WOO! SOOOOOO cool!

9. "Cab" by Train

10. Have the 14th to the 25th April off work!!!! Only three more days of work til I get a holiday now! Not actually going away, and the kids are off school, but hopefully we'll do some things, day outings etc, and get some STUFF TIDIED UP around here!

Yeah!

And that's it for today, bedtime now if I'm to WORK again at work tomorrow!

*big squishy hugs to my flist!*

Sold more Guide biscuits, had the second bathroom contractor come and explain his quote (double the first quote, *sigh*) and am more exhausted than ever. What's with that?

On the plus side... Kat sent heaps of music last night *dances*, watched "Best in Show" last night too (gotta love those mockumentaries, and the ever-wonderful Parker Posey), and I get to sleep in tomorrow.
haldoor: the road is long, with many a winding turn (karl holds harry)
...I watched "National Treasure" last night, and although it's one of those corny old things where the guy gets the girl and everything at the end, and has many many "of course" bits, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Nick Cage was good (hubby likes him) and I love a good old romp like that! Mr Sean Porn Bean was having fun too... (see why the Americans go all squishy over the accent there) and there was even a couple of slashy bits - or they were to me, but then, I'm like that. My favourite line? "Can I marry your brain?" HA HA HA, take out the brain and that would've been fun! Cute sidekick! *pets*
