Talk about madness... just got rid of the last of the mess from having two separate sleepovers this weekend, am glad to say.
I know I haven't been around much this week, but it's not been for bad reasons, though some of what's under the cut may seem like madness!
N2D had a friend come home with her on Friday night and they took over the living room, though thankfully managed to semi-tidy things by 10am Saturday as I'd said they couldn't go anywhere till it was done, and they wanted to go off to wander around our local shops and area to get photos for a library project, so that was one good thing.
LF had his friend come over about 3.30pm on Saturday, and he got picked up about noon today, so then tidy-up was in full swing. They'd made a right old mess of the living area, and got yelled at about half past midnight due to spilled water and messing up the semi-tent I'd made for them to sleep under. Needless to say, it was gone from that point and they got told in no uncertain terms to 'go to sleep without any further talking!'
Apart from that, it went okay. The kids were left here on Friday evening as Hubby and I went out for a couple of hours to go bowling with our workmates (I came 3rd out of 10 adults, and 2nd of work people! WOO!), have a drink and pizza. It wasn't late, so it worked okay with having N2D's friend over - we suggested they cook as N1D's reaction to being left in charge was 'I am not babysitting them!'. I told her if they cooked she could just occupy LF for a while and the other girls would be fine. Of course it was fine! We got home in time to organise ourselves for TV watching in the bedroom, and left them to it!
Saturday night was McDonald's for the kids and Fish & Chips for the parents (as our fave takeaway shop is close to McD's it works and is way cheaper for MORE and yummier food!), and I made another cake for LF (though it didn't end up getting eaten until Sunday), and I'd made rainbow jellies to go in the banana splits LF wanted for dessert. That all turned out pretty well, even if a rainbow of leftovers did end up going down the drain afterwards! I will post pics soon.
Hubby and I took to the bedroom once the boys were sorted (no, not for that you naughty people! Although... :D ) to watch the CSI finale and 'Blood Diamond' which was on TV. CSI finale was a cliff-hanger - YOU CAN'T DO THAT TO ME! NOOOOOOO! Esp with what's happening with Nicky (I won't say in case you follow and don'e want to be spoiled). I do likes my Nick/Greg; can't have anything going wrong there! Blood Diamond was quite good too; Di Caprio wasn't too bad in it and I like Djimon Hounsou and Jennifer Connelly (eyebrows FTW!), and the story was pretty gruelling but well done.
As for earlier this week,
kaige68 and I were encouraging and cajolling each other again and both ended up writing some drabbles. Hers are EXCELLENT - Avengers (FPS & RPS), Percy Jackson RPF and H50 FPS (a series of seven, so far) - so pop over to her LJ if you're interested in any of those; they're worth it! My own is a series of 14 in H50 FPS (natch) about Steve getting rejected by Danny, link to part one is here, if you're interested. I'm posting two a day because I think these ones have more impact read one by one, rather than immediately following each other. Apologies if you prefer finished works all in one! At this rate the whole series should be there by Wednesday, anyway.
After that, I've been too tired and/or busy to work on much, but my Steve McGarrett/Adam Noshimuri is back from beta (thanks,
siluria, as ever; you are wonderful!), so I'll knock that into final shape and post next weekend, once I've got the drabbles out of the way. Dunno how much interest there will be in it, but I couldn't resist when two such beautiful men were on screen together and I figured the characters had a couple of things in common, so I could make it work. It's around 12K all up and is in five chapters; will try to post all five in fairly quick succession, I think, depending on time to hand.
Managed to get some more Blue Rodeo from iTunes, despite setbacks involving a whole album not playing properly *sigh* initially. Ended up getting my money back on that as the re-download didn't improve matters, and then I bought tracks individually as I had more success with that, and could choose the exact tracks I wanted rather than just the 'Greatest hits' choice. I am so in love with Jim Cuddy's voice! Naturally I now have most of his gorgeous ballads and a few upbeat ones, along with my fave Greg Keelor tracks (not so many despite it being his 'Lost Together' that drew me to them initially). I have to say I adore their harmonising so damned much - they have such different voices and yet on the tracks where they sing together, no matter who's got lead, they are just awesome. There's a couple of tracks they have Sarah McLachlan guesting on too (she's wondrous by herself as well!) and those ones are just magic with their three-part harmonies.
I really want Blue Rodeo's whole album 'Small Miracles' especially though - I test-listened to so many tracks when I was iTuning them, and IT IS SO DAMNED GOOD! although I love most of their stuff. I'm frightened to go for another whole iTunes album though because of the issue above, but not sure I can find them on CD over here, so... will have to work on that one.
And just because I am clearly obsessed with Blue Rodeo, I give you some YT vids, just for nostalgic reasons! If you like country-rock with a tinge of psychedelia, you should have a listen. ;-)
We had two of their songs for our wedding - 'Five Days in May' and 'Know Where You Go/Tell Me Your Dream' as they were so very much OURS. What's especially cool about '5 Days' is that Jim says when they came to NZ the sound engineer was writing his wife's name in the sand on a beach here and when asked about it, he said he did that whenever he found himself on a beach! Love my Kiwi connections!
'Five Days in May' from the 'Five Days in July' album (1993)
This is from the 'Small Miracles' album, featuring Jim on lead vocals (natch), and it highlights not only how gorgeous his voice is, but also the great harmonising he and Greg do:
'Three Hours Away' (2007)
Here's one of my favourite oldies from their first album, 'Outskirts', which just shows off Jim's vocal ability to the max.
'Try' (1987)
And I couldn't leave without giving you a bit of Greg, so here, from the first album that I bought when I was in Canada in 1992, is the title track. Gotta love those swirling sounds, and it shows how different they can sound when Greg's in charge. ;-)
'Lost Together' (1992)
*sigh* That turned into a bit of an advert for Blue Rodeo, didn't it? ;-P Oh well, do give them a go; they're so worth it!
Apart from that, it's cooling down and I guess I should get some wood in and start the fire. Here's hoping Hubby's got dinner under control; I'm sure it's his turn!!! ;-)

Date: 2012-07-29 06:31 pm (UTC)I don't think you'll have to worry about me putting more work on your fic plate for another week -- reaaaallly wrestling with the next chapter. Threw the first two versions out entirely halfway through them. Guess everyone hits a point like that...
Hope the week treats you well. Off to study for a final exam- quantitative analysis. Blech.

Date: 2012-07-30 10:42 am (UTC)Thanks for the latest on your fic! of course I'll do it as soon as I can when it arrives, but I do seem to have a few things happening around here. The latest being a new H50 fic from an idea that was brewing over the weekend... I wrote over 2K of that today and I really wish i wouldn't do that... I have so many things that need finishing! Sometimes I just can't stop myself though. *sigh*
Hope you have a good week too, and good luck with the exam! Does not sound fun! *hugs*
