Good luck! I tried to find some obscure pics for some of them, but others were just too hard to find obscure pics for! Let's hope I made them a tiny bit hard. And some are Kiwi artists, so they might be difficult for most of you, though at least two of them have international hits.

Date: 2012-02-26 04:37 am (UTC)Wild guess that 20 is Blur although I'm sure that's not right. The lead singer actually reminds me more of Carson Daly!
1 Is clearly some hard rock band from the '60s or '70s...
6 Uh, Paul Kelly (I do remember him and he's an Aussie, right? If that's him, that is)
23. Hmm, Herman's Hermits? That's surely not right either.
24. The Nelson brothers? (Sons of Ozzie & Harriet?)
And I love the Beatles "in disguise" LOL!
no subject
Date: 2012-02-26 07:14 am (UTC)1. more 70's & 80's; half-English, half-American band.
6. Canadian rocker
20. I had to search hard for this; they're not normally seen onscreen
23. right era to begin, although these guys still perform, unlike Hermits Hermits!
24. *giggles* I don't know the Nelsons. No, these boys are one of the biggest-selling bands ever, and no longer perform as one of them died a few years ago.
That should help!
I love the Beatles pic too! It was impossible to find one of them that didn't look like them, but that one just caught my fancy as being a little off-beat! ;-)
[sorry if you got a repeat of this comment, slightly altered... I thought LJ hadn't accepted it, then when I reposted, found it had! Crazy! Use any extra clues I gave you, though!]

Date: 2012-02-26 07:44 am (UTC)Hmmm, I am still drawing a blank on 1. Not Bad Company or the Scorpions... who are German, anyway. The lead singer does look familiar but I can't place him. Argh. I must know!
23. Moody Blues?
24. Oh! Must be the Bee Gees! I don't think I've ever seen a pic of them so young!
And the only Canadian rocker I can think of is Bryan Adams! (At least I think he's Canadian!) Oh and Rush, LOL.
no subject
Date: 2012-02-26 07:49 am (UTC)You will know 1, I'm sure of it.
Ha! I suppose I know a few more Canadians as I lived there for a year once. I'm surprised how little known outside of Canada some of those acts are though; especially since it's right next door to the US! This guy is pretty good, too. I kinda wished I'd had my other favourite Canadians come up though: Blue Rodeo, who are so under-appreciated outside of Canada it's not funny!

Date: 2012-02-26 08:14 am (UTC)But a bit of googling led me here (http://www.whosdatedwho.com/ctn_14073878/canadian-male-singers/) so I'm going to guess Matthew Good for #6 even though you're right, I don't know who he is!
no subject
Date: 2012-02-26 08:29 am (UTC)No, not Matthew Goode and then I went thru pages and pages of that list until he finally showed up at something like 458!!! I'd heard of a number of the other Canadians on the list (mostly way higher), and since you're probably wanting to be put out of your misery, I'll do the same thing for you that you did for me and link you to #6 (http://www.last.fm/music/Colin%2520James?ac=colin%20james)
Oh, and #1 (http://www.last.fm/music/Foreigner?ac=foreigner) too, in case you're dying to know!

Date: 2012-02-26 08:34 am (UTC)As for the Eagles, some of their songs I like, some not so much. I'd peg them as more of a guilty pleasure, probably. Part of me is still very averse to embracing anything mainstream!
ETA: Just saw you'd unveiled #1. Wow, never ever would have gotten it, although of course I know who they are. I had no idea that some of them were British! They do look familiar but in only the vaguest way! I guess I couldn't have picked them out of a crowd!
no subject
Date: 2012-02-26 08:42 am (UTC)As for the mainstream - I can totally see that, going by your past! I can understand that; I've always had a slight aversion to some of the over-hyped bands, though some songs of the 'popular' people do kinda seep in. ABBA in the day, U2 and Coldplay are examples that spring to mind, although yeah, I'm a sucker for a catchy tune, so it's not quite the same!
no subject
Date: 2012-02-26 09:02 am (UTC)And U2, well, damn, they're just a great band. I didn't quite get in on the ground floor there but very early on. Definitely one of my all-time favorite bands.

Date: 2012-02-26 06:32 pm (UTC)I got a bit tired of U2 during Rattle & Hum and I never got into Pop but otherwise, love, love, love. Oddly, Joshua Tree hasn't aged as well for me. I prefer War, Unforgettable Fire & Achtung Baby.
Taking a look at your lists, I've never heard of #2 or #3 but I do know Crowded House. I didn't recognize as them as they look today, though!
no subject
Date: 2012-02-27 10:15 am (UTC)Yeah, it's funny with U2. I actually don't own any of their albums, although my hubby has Joshua Tree so it's kind of the only one I know all the way through... I think (memory slips) we may have a compilation album which is probably all I'd bother with as I'm extremely meh about whole albums, despite Edge's style!
I figured you probably would know Crowded House, since they're basically our most famous export! I guess I thought too that Neil Finn would kind of give them away in that pic!
Thirsty Merc are Australian rockers, very Aussie sounding for want of a better description. They had a big hit with 'Tommy & Krista' recently, and before that there was one they used in an advert here - title escapes me again, I'm afraid, but it was a car ad and the music was awesome.
Bic Runga is a Kiwi - we have her 'Beautiful Collision' album and she continues to be fantastic. It's hard to even think who to compare her to. If you're interested, I can find a vid or two for you to check out. She always needs more exposure!
no subject
Date: 2012-02-27 04:52 pm (UTC)I picture Crowded House as they (mostly just Neil Finn, right?) looked in the "Don't Dream It's Over" video! I haven't followed them through the years so that wasn't an obvious one for me.
And did you see that Brett McKenzie won an Oscar?! :) I'm sure it's all over the NZ media, LOL. I haven't really watched Flight of the Conchords but they did one of the best Simpsons episodes in years where Lisa goes to arts camp.
no subject
Date: 2012-02-27 05:50 pm (UTC)Yeah, Neil writes most of the songs, sings and plays lead and is certainly the 'known face' of Crowded House.
Oh yes, Bret was all over the news yesterday and is bound to be in the papers this morning - I'll see when I get to work! FOTC are pretty cool, and the humour is slightly warped, but very Kiwi! I love them - you should definitely check them out more if you like a little humour in your music. ;-)

Date: 2012-02-26 10:21 pm (UTC)And #20 looks like Damon Albarn... so that could be Blur or Gorillaz, although female in background if not a backing singer would mean Gorillaz.
And is #21 Chris Rea??
no subject
Date: 2012-02-27 10:18 am (UTC)It's Gorillaz, according to what I found online! Good guess - I wouldn't know the lead singer from a bar of soap!
21 is indeed Chris Rea!
You did well! ;-)

Any good?!

So only #1 left and no one seems to be able to get them... goodness where was everyone in 1981 when the album 4 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/4_(Foreigner_album)) was so big?
