Japan had an earthquake tonight (NZ time) measuring somewhere between 8.4 and 8.9 (we heard variations on the news) just off the coast from Sendai (North-east of Tokyo) and the tsunami damage is widespread.

This is just... well, I don't even know.

*hugs* I'm just hoping things will settle down, because even for those of us out of immediate danger who consider ourselves strong and able to hold it together have been affected emotionally by all this upheaval. I hate to think how much worse it is for the people who've lived through the actual disasters.

Your icon is so appropriate.

I know, it's weird and spooky. This year is supposed to be better than last one, doesn't look that way so far.

*hugs you & clings*

Ring of Fire. Scary as hell, and we are soooo overdue in Southern California. *sighs*

Much love to you, lady.

And love right back to you *hugs*

Good Thoughts to them all.

Our family friends (and friend's family) in Japan are all ok, but this is awful.

On a slightly off-topic note, I have only just found out that our South Island Area manager's daughter has been having counselling since the September quake - she is only 10 (panic/anxiety attacks). I had wondered about the "hidden" after-effects (we've all heard about the domestic violence and petty (and not-so-petty) crime), but this is the first time I've heard of a real (as in not a sound bite from a "shocked" tv presenter) person suffering beyond the immediate power/water/relocate thing. It is about time they (the "journalists")stopped focusing on the "noisiest" and remembered those who cannot be their own advocates and those who consider themselves "too ordinary" or are too quietly stoic to ask for help.
The guy's other daughter (well, his stepdaughter), is also 10, but has not had the same reaction (she is distressed, but within "reasonable limits").

Glad to hear the people you know are all okay.

I get what you're saying and I can imagine the repercussions like this for the 'unseen' people affected will continue on into adulthood for some kids as well as for many years for some adults. I just hope the powers that be in these areas see that and make allowances where they can so that some of them, if not all of them, get the help they need.
