Why I don't like Shopping in the Afternoon with Children

General rave and gripe under the cut, but here's the good thing from the other day just so I can feel pleased about something I've done lately:

This is a "Blue Meerca", a Neopet, if you don't know of such things:

and this is the cake I decorated for N2D's b'day last weekend:

Not bad, eh? I felt good about it, anyway, and the kids loved it!

Had to take LF to the doctor's this afternoon. So then, naturally, we had to go to the chemist to pick up a prescription for him. Of course it takes them longer to prepare it than ideal (not ready even after a trip to the loo), so my gorgeous son runs around the chemist's, throwing things and then proceeds to rip a sponge in half...shudder. I'm supposed to control this? I try to hang on to him, but he does the throw himself down thing, pulls away and it all starts again *pulling out hair* by now (and I can be reasonably tough with my kids, believe it or not). When they tell me it will still be another five minutes, we escape to the "$2 Shop" so the girls can spend pocket money. My gorgeous LF crawls around the damn floor there... OH GOOD GRIEF! I try to keep him outside the shop while the girls take forever to decide. He runs around in big circles, including back into the shop. I pull him back out again... *sigh*. Finally back to the chemist for the script where he runs around again while I collect it and pay for my other items.

Then, and this is the killer... sweet as you please, we leave and he holds my hand like the most darling child to walk back out to the car. What is that? Why can't he do that in the damn shops???

And later... just to show it was probably tiredness as much as anything (LF goes bananas when he's tired, all over-hyper and stuff)... time for dinner. Nope, LF not having any of that. Throws hissy fit, wants to go to his room. Since he won't actually stay in the bedroom, I give him the choice of eating or having a bath. He says dinner. I try that, he wants a bath (crying and screaming throughout all this, btw - him, not me, YET). Finally, I practically throw him in the bath (staying remarkably calm for me, I might add), where he refuses to sit down. I wash him quickly, standing up, as he screams and splashes and says he hates baths and water and cloths and so on...

Finally get him out and he almost immediately calms down by the heater and all is well again. He lets me dress his legs (eczema-like thing we went to docs for), get his clothes on, feed him dinner, clean his teeth and put him to bed with nary a whimper, in fact he smiles most of the way through it.

This child isn't even Gemini. Did I get a changeling, or is this perfectly normal? Someone tell me, because my girls weren't like this at 3yo... *sigh*

Enough said, I'm tired, I'm grumpy, and it's bed soon for me (and hopefully my Hubby hasn't forgotten our date *waggles eyebrows*, or there will be trouble!)
