Hey, all you writers out there! Think you know enough to write well? Everyone can use a hand, even old players, and I'm taking this opportunity to recommend [livejournal.com profile] fandom_grammar, which has helped me so much in the past, and still continues to do so.

They have just posted an article on 'epithets', which is how to describe/name people (not just swear at them!) in your fics. I found the original article extremely helpful when I was new to writing, so I thought I'd pass on the link.

Really though, this comm is awesome at helping out when you have questions about spelling, grammar and all that kind of thing, as well as posting regular articles on common mistakes/confusions in writing, and just generally being a good source for any writing-type queries in this line.

YAYAYAYAYAYYAYAY!

Yes, we've been following the rescue of the 33 Chilean miners with avid interest, and I'm so pleased for them that they are now out, and I sincerely hope that the offers they have received since they were trapped will mean that none of them have to go back underground again ever (unless they want to)! Congratulations to all those involved in the rescue.

OK, OK, OK!

I'm not usually so full of flail... but from being a little on the depressed side the other day, I am suddenly way, way up! And it's due MAJORLY to my Lost flisters who have jumped into the Lost Love Meme I began a couple of days ago, and said some incredible, wonderful, gorgeous things about all their friends (please keep going back; there are more names up since yesterday and they need more love too!). Man, I love this fandom. :D

Otherly, what's good is:

1. One more day of work before I have a WHOLE WEEK off.
2. Not being tired at work despite having trouble getting to sleep last night and only getting about four hours sleep.
3. Finally getting 'The White Road' by Lynn Flewelling from the library in time for our road trip! WOO! *pumps fist* (the newest book I've ever had from the library, by the way!)
4. ROAD TRIP! Leaving Wednesday (NZ time) to head north for a couple of days.
5. Lost Luau starts today! ;-) I'm going to be away from my computer for a couple of days, but I'm going to be inspired, I just know it!

*hugs* to all my flist just for being all round fantastic!

PS: Happy Belated 4th of July to all of my American friends. I meant to post about this earlier but I got carried away reading all the magnificent comments on the love meme (390 comments and counting! ♥ ♥ ♥) I hope you all had a wonderful Independence Day!

I have a day at the luau! WOO! I'm sharing with [livejournal.com profile] kpalafox on the 9th August! Yay!

Thanks [livejournal.com profile] toestastegood and the other [livejournal.com profile] lostsquee mods for making that possible. Thanks too to [livejournal.com profile] zelda_zee, who has been most kind, and all the other Losties who offered to share their days. I hope some of the others in the fandom have been able to be as involved.

So, court. Went okay, despite the setbacks. The quick version is that both claims were dismissed, which in simple terms means we both walk away and no-one pays anybody any extra money. Which is all I wanted, really - just to clear it up and move on. There's a bit more, but for now, I can feel relieved and go on with my life. Thank-you Mr Referee, you were very fair.

The rest of the waffle here )

Good news:

- My aunt rang tonight and she can babysit while Mr H and I go out to dinner this Saturday night coming! WOOHOO!

- [livejournal.com profile] gottalovev, I finally listened to the Colin James! AWESOME! He rocks, and I like his newer stuff as much as I liked the first album when I was in Canada! Thanks for reminding me how great he is!

- Thanks to everyone who offered me support and good vibes after my last post - I'm sure everything helped make today go a little bit better than it might have! *smooches* to you all!

- Heroes is about to start, I'm going to watch! Catch you guys later! *kisses again*
haldoor: Kaige and I like to jump off bridges one after the other; not always in the same order (josh-happy dance)
The Good News Is...

1. I'm back from holiday!

2. It was a good week at the beach - great weather, very relaxing, and we had fun!

3. After not being able to get into my computer at home til this afternoon, I am once more ONLINE! Woo!

4. The new TV season has begun here, and we've got/are getting this week: House, Lost, Prison Break, Supernatural! Heroes has already started, and I hear we're getting Torchwood later this year *sigh* What more could a girl want?

5. Lost is on in less than 5 minutes from now and the kids are all in bed and quiet!!! *squees* S3 at last - *puts on Sawyer-watching eyes and ignores the world*

Will update properly later this week! I've missed you guys!!!

Thanks: [livejournal.com profile] therosewilde for the texts of insanity til I could get near a computer again! Will be reading the nano chapters as soon as I can, babe, but right now? I think you know where I'll be for the next hour, right? *grin*
haldoor: Kaige and I like to jump off bridges one after the other; not always in the same order (stay golden)
Okay, I'm so pleased with myself, I'm polishing the medal for the chest I'm hoping to be awarded with! HA!

Today I worked at work all day! Okay, apart from three little tiny dips into e-mail, but that's allowed, right?

Yesterday, I finally made a baby card for userinfoniceandfluffy, who only had her baby almost two months ago.

Yay, go me!

Hmm, now if only I can get two more cards made and remember where I hid the rest of the gifts for everyone...
haldoor: Kaige and I like to jump off bridges one after the other; not always in the same order (hard cheese)
So, starting form last week, let's think...

Well, before I do that, there's this (thanks for more of these fun things, Amy!):

Which poem are you?

Jabberwocky by Lewis Carroll

Oh, you're silly! People probably think you're a bit kooky, but those nuts just don't realize that you've got a language all your own. But hey, you always bring a smile to people's faces.

Ten Good Things )
haldoor: Kaige and I like to jump off bridges one after the other; not always in the same order (deathbystereo)
I have done all three things I had to do this weekend. YAY! I can concentrate!

In case you didn't see Friday's entry, they were:

1. Make birthday card for MIL (b'day next Sat).

2. Sew on Brownie badges and name labels on kids' clothes (even managed to do some repairs too, woo!).

3. Dye my hair. Yay! I am a full redhead again. No more grey. (so daring, I know, but scaredy-cat is frightened to lose red)!

YAY! Might even work tomorrow (today is a public holiday here, so I'm NOT slacking off for a change).

Three Four Okay, Five things:

1. I'm doing this at work - it's Tuesday for *insert deity*'s sake!

2. We had our first fire for the winter season last night (mmm, toasty warm, no going back now).

3. I'm still f*cked in the head due to lack of sleep. Don't ask.

4. I don't eat nuts, nor do I dip them. So there.

5. I can do short posts, I can! See?
haldoor: Kaige and I like to jump off bridges one after the other; not always in the same order (repressed)
Let's see if I can. (N2D desperate for her turn on comp, dammit).

This week: many good things, including getting back to LJ, the bathroom being finished, and me actually working at work. Flipside: screaming child (LF) behind me right now (am ignoring), not enough sleep.

But the best thing:

FIREFLY is on Sky TV tonight!!!

YAH!, hotdamn and woohoo!

I've been waiting since *insert date here* (read: memory of a goldfish) for dvd unlimited to send the first disc. In the meantime, Sky has decided in it's infinite wisdom to play it on Fridays at 8.30pm here in Kiwiland!

I am so psyched!!! Yeeha! (could you tell?)

And... umm, that wasn't very short, was it? Oh, sod it.
haldoor: Kaige and I like to jump off bridges one after the other; not always in the same order (repressed)
1. Bought tiles for the bathroom yesterday! 25% discount too, woo!

2. The whole family swam at the wave pool and used their showers yesterday while the bathroom continues to be out of action!

3. Actually worked HARD today!

4. The shower is ready to be used! They finished it today!

5. Underfloor heating man came today and fitted that (so can't actually use the shower til tomorrow morn, but... everything else on schedule, so not complaining)

6. The tiler will (hopefully) be here tomorrow! (don't wanna jinx it by not adding "hopefully")

7. Watched "Monster's Ball" on Sat night with the Hubby - very good, even with the suicide bit (poor Heath!)

8. Tiger got to translocate on the EN RPG! WOO! SOOOOOO cool!

9. "Cab" by Train

10. Have the 14th to the 25th April off work!!!! Only three more days of work til I get a holiday now! Not actually going away, and the kids are off school, but hopefully we'll do some things, day outings etc, and get some STUFF TIDIED UP around here!

Yeah!

And that's it for today, bedtime now if I'm to WORK again at work tomorrow!

*big squishy hugs to my flist!*
haldoor: Kaige and I like to jump off bridges one after the other; not always in the same order (josh-dark)
Two things:

1. Wonderful Kids' story read with my own ones tonight: "Our Twitchy" by Kes Gray. It's the best adoption story ever! So cute. A rabbit finds out his Mum and Dad are not his Bunnymum and Bunnydad, and are in fact... no, can't tell you, that would give it away! Just make do with their names: Milfoil and Sedge, which I think are just gorgeous names!

Best bit (about Twitchy): "Its soft grey fur was smeared with brown mud. Its long floppy ears were rolled up and fastened with clothes pegs. It had a little dangly twig tied to its fluffy tail." (This makes me giggle every time I read it, and I've done so several times already this week. Poor wee bunny!). Okay, so I'm nuts! *grin*. So what else is new?

2. I'm putting this under here in case the idea of me losing weight is far too sickening for you to bear reading about. )
haldoor: Kaige and I like to jump off bridges one after the other; not always in the same order (b and s)
The wee bird we found on Thursday not only survived the night, it seemed stronger... so we kept it around, trying to give it some food and water, but it didn't seem to do much with it - too young I guess.

Holidays!

haldoor: Kaige and I like to jump off bridges one after the other; not always in the same order (pablo)
I'm off work from now until 7 Feb!!!! YEEHA!!!!!!!!! (stayin' home mostly, but not at work, repeat, NOT AT WORK!)

A/ Doin' stuff at home, like this:

1. Clearing out garage (finding old old writings, maybe adapt some?)
2. Taking kids to movies (Nanny McPhee!)
3. Going to beach (Yay!)
4. Writing fic
5. Reading fic
6. Testing out new sewing machine
7. Dyeing hair (cover grey, ulp!)
8. Opening bank a/c for PMS Tour 2010
9. Reading "Twisted" by Jonathan Kellerman (Xmas gift)
10. Playing on computer!

B/ Some things I love about summer:

1. Walking barefoot on the grass
2. Sitting in an outdoor chair in the shade of a tree in my backyard (reading, or just sitting, thinking)
3. Hanging out a load of washing at 4pm, and taking it in again at 7pm, dry.
4. Not being cold (except at my work where "arctic" is the current setting on the a/c, grrrrr...)
5. Exercise out from under the covers *wink*
haldoor: Kaige and I like to jump off bridges one after the other; not always in the same order (glasses)
It was lovely here - better weather than for a while - YAY! No hassles at all, in fact! How amazing is that? (Last year I visited A & E at lunchtime, thank God for no repeats!)

Christmas Day at my place )
haldoor: Kaige and I like to jump off bridges one after the other; not always in the same order (alf)
Ok, since it's Friday, and dinner's nearly ready, I'm going for a quick good things list before I have to jump out of here!

1. Hardly worked at all, all week (which is good and bad all at once...)

2. Free shopping day Wednesday with the comps at work down for THREE hours! Ah, it's good when that happens just as you panic about Xmas shopping!

3. Sick day yesterday - felt better after the Panadol, and did some fun posting on the RPG with Coyote, James and Jackal.

4. Kindergarten rang this week (pre-school in NZ), and YAY! LF can start at the end of January when school goes back after the summer hols! Just what I wanted! (though my eyes teared up at the thought of my baby taking his first steps away from home!!!)

5. LJ gave us freebie-cheapsters THREE more icons for Christmas! YAYHOO! I went crazy... okay, so not very, now I have six though - double the fun!

6. Hubby's cooking dinner! and it's Friday!!!!

7. Found out today that my Aunt's going to be a Nana at long last! Excited for her! My cousin is pregnant, and due in June! Actually, it's the second person in as many days that I've heard is pregnant (the other's here somewhere *waggles eyebrows*) and both are due around the same time, how funny is that? Haven't had any pregnant friends or family for ages.

8. Choice of movies tonight: Matt Dillon (eyebrows, and those drop-dead gorgeous brown eyes *sigh*) in "Beautiful Girls" (I've not seen before) or Johnny Depp in "Dead Man" on dvd... could watch the dvd later, hmmm. Maybe both?

9. Bought myself a treat to sleep in the other day, sexy skimpy sleepwear, which I NEVER usually do. Must be the humidity getting to me! Hubby liked it too *grin*

10. Actually bought shoes this week!!!! Me, the one woman in the world who does NOT have a shoe fetish. I now have 9 (yes, count 'em) pairs of shoes to my name, including slippers, gumboots and jandals. I finally found some summer work sandals that are comfy, flat (not a heels girl) and best of all, cheap like me. *grins like a cheshire cat*

Sorry, [livejournal.com profile] kaige68 that I didn't get to the 'Jeremy is...' today, but maybe tomorrow?

Hope you enjoy the recipes, [livejournal.com profile] mrsbean, even though they're probably nothing terrifically spectacular! Let me know how they go!

YEEHA! Made it through another week!
haldoor: Kaige and I like to jump off bridges one after the other; not always in the same order (heath)
... so so freakin' tired, I can barely manouvre (who knows how you spell that right now, dunno why I was trying to be so damned ambitious) walk around the office. Yeah, I'm supposed to be working. So what? Yeah, I made a thingy... ummm... whatcha callit... (you make 'em on New Year's...) oh resolution, that's it! not to do LJ from work. SO WHAT? I'm too freakin' tired to work, so I'm pretending.

It turned out longer than I thought, so I stuck it under a cut to allow you to escape now, should you so wish. GO GO GO, I urge you! Do any of the topics even remotely go together, I wonder? *scratches head, then walks off, tired, unsure what was even being wondered*

More stuff about being tired, the EN RPG, pimples and movies )
haldoor: Kaige and I like to jump off bridges one after the other; not always in the same order (johnny-haldoor)
1. My young Iranian co-worker explaining why he liked a Ben Stiller/Owen Wilson movie (hard to explain, just seemed kinda slashy maybe...)

2. LF making faces at himself in the mirror while having his hair cut (he's only 3yo).

3. N2D trying not to laugh when I told her not to smile (to cheer her up after a rough day at school - try it yourself, say "Don't smile" and then try not to!)

4. A Dr Seuss activity book which suggested we should NOT lick the page (why oh why did my mind head towards the smut then, I wonder? In fact, I giggled like a schoolgirl for a solid 5 minutes!)

5. I was doing the "Grandma, what big teeth you have," to N1D and N2D comes out with "Grandma, what a big butt you have," (N1D has a very small butt, so no insult intended {she's 9yo, N2D is 7yo}), but it made us all laugh, then we continued the fun by dancing around the lounge to Queen's "Fat Bottomed Girls"

All in all, a laughy kinda day. Thank God, cos i'm distinctly hormonal, and some smut would not go amiss now. In fact... *goes off to finish writing some*
haldoor: Kaige and I like to jump off bridges one after the other; not always in the same order (karl-whitesuit)
1. The South Park Uncut movie is really funny. A lot of swearing, but really funny. Note to self: watch from the start next time.

2. "Saw" is a really icky movie. If you don't like icky movies, don't watch it.

3. There are compensations for kids being a pain and not settling til late when visiting people overnight. They are called "early nights" the night after you get home, and you get to do lots more computer stuff without interruption *grin*

4. Using a rubber glove designed for your left hand on your right hand (when the last right hand one has broken) when doing dishes just isn't the same, tho' it will do at a pinch.

5. Doing chores first before you get onto the computer is worth it. Then you don't have to rush around like a blue-assed fly six minutes before your husband walks in the door at 9.30pm to make sure the place looks like you do something other than sit on your ass in front of the computer.

6. And I even WORKED at work today too. *pokes tongue* Okay, so I e-mailed [livejournal.com profile] kaige68 first, but once that was done, I worked like a trouper. (or is it trooper?) Anyhow, it's set me up for the week. I shall (note use of "word of the day", Kaige and Kat) be a good little kitty this week and work hard, thus giving myself extra time to write good stories. So there!
