Happy New Year everyone! May 2013 bring things you've wanted your way!

I can't seem to make myself post anything I've been meaning to, but I'm making an effort to think about it! The sun came out today, so we took the kids to the beach for the first time this summer - and everyone else had the same idea, obviously! Our favourite local beach was PACKED with cars - before we even got halfway down the metal road to it, a guy stopped his car to tell us not to bother! There were cars lining both sides of the narrow road and it was completely obvious there wasn't a point trying to find parking. So we headed for another beach past it - less well known - and it too was pretty busy, though we managed to park on the metal road and walk down without it taking an aeon. Not the world's greaest beach, but very pleasant and swimming was nice. Sat in the sun for a while after that and just lazed, enjoying the day. Home now and Hubby's got the BBQ underway and I'm sitting out on my brand new deck *beams* writing this. Very very nice, I must say!

I did get a nice swag for Christmas - all things I like/love/want/need, so very happy! I have a photo but I haven't uploaded it. Will post about that when I've sorted the pics. Also need to post reno photos and vids up to 23/12/12, which I'll do eventually too.

In the meantime, here's a writery meme that's going around )

The good news is that Christmas stuff is all pretty much on schedule or done, though now I realise I probably need to get something else for N2D as I've spent about $20 more on her brother and sister than I spent on her...

The bad news is I seem to have gotten way behind on LJ, haven't looked at Twitter in ages, and well, forget updating about the reno! Ha! I even managed to forget to take photos recently, though I put that to rights last night by taking a few. Have to make another video though as a few changes are evident since the last one. We now have a carport roof, the gib-stopping is done in the new rooms, and there are bi-fold doors out onto my deck (which is only half done). I've told one of the guys working here that my priority is the deck and the wall in the room which we're making smaller to make way for a hallway. I have N2D sleeping on a mattress in the lounge (living room) right now as her old room is too messy and full of furniture pushed into the middle. N1D's in the top bunk in LF's room, and there is stuff everywhere it shouldn't be around the house.

BUT! We have a Christmas tree (small, live one in a pot), it is decorated, and I have my peg-lights up holding the Christmas cards that have started arriving. [livejournal.com profile] agdhani, yours has arrived, thank you so much! Also, big thanks to [livejournal.com profile] ladywillin, whose card and gift arrived yesterday. I think I already mentioned [livejournal.com profile] msb66 and [livejournal.com profile] pippii, both of whom sent me cards and gifts which arrived last week. Thank you both again!

I hope you are all doing well! I'll catch up soon. *hugs*

Hi everyone! It's Christmas Eve here and we're just about ready to race out to check out the Christmas Lights. There's a street near us where we can park the car and wander around the beautifully decorated houses along with all the other people gathered for the same thing. It's a wonderful feeling to be out there on Christmas Eve and we've made it part of our family tradition to do this today. I won't be online tomorrow, so I take this opportunity to wish all of you and your near and dear ones a very

christmas tree

Merry Christmas gif

to all of you who celebrate. And to those who don't, may I offer you my best wishes anyway!

Have a great Christmas and I'll see you on the other side, perhaps a little fuller and fatter, but definitely more relaxed once the bustle of it is all over. An extra-special hug to anyone who has to work over the holiday break! *kisses*

This morning was awful. I woke up around eight as a text came on my cellphone (lucky it was in my room, really, I often ignore it for days). I nearly left it, but had to answer nature's call so I decided to read it. It was a message from a workmate asking me to phone her at work as there was some bad news. I felt a bit hesitant, wondering what kind of bad news, but I still phoned.

The sad news was this )

You Are Blitzen

Always in good spirits, you're the reindeer who loves to party down with Santa.

Why You're Naughty: You're always blitzed on Christmas Eve, while flying!

Why You're Nice: You mix up a mean eggnog martini.

...that I probably drink a whole lot less than most people I know! Not to mention the only drinking I suggested in the questions was for Santa! ;-)

Okay, I have no idea how well the olfactory senses are of the giant bat, but anyhew...

It's card-making time, I'm making lists and I'm working on numbers... yes, the design is good to go, I just need to really get my A into G and make the damned things! (desperate hurry because we Kiwis must post our economy cards in early November or else they cost double, and when you do as many as I do, you definitely go economy!)

But first:

Anyone want a home-made Christmas card this year? Many of you will already be on the mailing list, so chances are if you haven't moved you'll get another one this year, but if we weren't already friends by last Christmas and/or you desperately need a haldoor classic card... could you please pop in a comment to show you're interested? Addresses not desperately needed yet, but I'll screen the comments if you want to stick it in now so I'm not scrabbling like an idiot in three weeks time because I don't have them all! Or you can e-m me at haldoor42 at yahoo dot com dot au if you prefer! If I did send one last year, just a 'the address is still the same' type comment would be just fine, thankee-doodles!

(I promise not to stalk you, either... BWAHAHAHAHAHA)

I had a lovely relaxing time with the Hubby & kids, and got lots of lovely pressies with a fair quota of chocolate thrown in, so I have few complaints.

To my entire flist: have a great time if you're celebrating over this festive season!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

I won't be online until the 26th here, and as it's after 11pm here now on the 23rd, this is the last time I'll be around today! Santa comes to NZ first, lucky us!

*hugs to you all* You're a great bunch!

Be good, or if you can't, look innocent and point at someone else when accused!

*dreams of Karl, Josh & Johnny in a nice puppy pile for me to unwrap tomorrow!*

Here it is, November. Did no-one tell the weather gods that this means it's supposed to be warm in NZ? last night was freezing after the wild winds and driving rain! I was really glad I hadn't swapped the winter duvet or put away the extra blanket the other week when I took the electric blankets off our bed. And I was still cold... tried snuggling up to the Hubby (men are always warmer) but he kept moving away. That would be why we both ended uup on his half of the bed by this morning. Dammit, he's not a natural cuddler.

And then, today, as I'm driving to work... not a whisper of wind to be seen, and it's looking like a reasonable day, though there's still cloud about, so it may fool me yet. Considering all the wind damage mentioned on the news last night, I cannot understand it. Still cold though, but that could just be because it's the usual setting of the a/c here at work: Antarctica.

Okay, work calls. Been here for an hour and a half, done nothing. After yesterday, I really had better do something with the two hours I have left. Thank God for getting ahead earlier in the week.

Note to self: Don't forget to stop and buy stamps for the Christmas cards on the way home!
haldoor: Kaige and I like to jump off bridges one after the other; not always in the same order (cunning plan)
Okay, I know people think I'm as mad as a meat-axe for talking about Christmas this soon, but honestly, when you're making 50+ christmas cards and they need to be ready for overseas posting by early November, if you don't get the design done in September, the whole thing unravels and you find yourself STILL making them for the local contingent in the week before Christmas. I should know, it has happened to me more than once.

They're not altogether fancy this year, but hopefully they still look nice enough. Three variations so far, which may turn into more if I get bored *grin*, but the basic design is in and approved by the committee (Hubby and kids), so I can put them down for the next wee while and concentrate on school holidays and getting ready for our trip away.

When we're back it'll time to think about N2D's 8th birthday (I have not been advised of the cake order yet), and then I will have to get down to the production line business!

So, if you haven't already expressed an interest, but you'd like one, let me know here or by e-m: haldoor42 at yahoo.com.au. Those people who got one last year? You're already on the list, don't worry.
haldoor: Kaige and I like to jump off bridges one after the other; not always in the same order (glasses)
It was lovely here - better weather than for a while - YAY! No hassles at all, in fact! How amazing is that? (Last year I visited A & E at lunchtime, thank God for no repeats!)

Christmas Day at my place )
haldoor: Kaige and I like to jump off bridges one after the other; not always in the same order (Default)
...just started here, and I am ready for bed. Saw the GORGEOUSNESS of Christmas lights around the city here tonight - very very pretty. If any of my photos turn out, I'll try to post a nice one later on (probably next year by the time they're developed, it's not even a digital camera!)

Oh, six million presents to wrap, will be a marathon before bed tonight (well, as I haven't slept here yet, to me it's still technically tomorrow night). Midnight, I'm thinking, and no doubt the kids will be up at the crack... (on Xmas day)

Okay, best go to bed now to make the most of a pretty likely sleep-in since we didn't get home from looking at the lights til 10.30pm, and hopefully the kids won't be waking early!

If I don't get back here before the 25th:

MERRY CHRISTMAS

to everyone on my flist! Have the best day, and don't stress if you can avoid it! If you can't avoid it, have a few wines and eat too much chocolate! I know I'll be up for that if all else fails! ;-)

PS: saw Narnia yesterday - LOVED it! Gorgeous (word of the day), and well-crafted in my opinion. All the child actors were great, but it's true that the lad who played Peter was far too cute for my good! ;-P

Today was going to be WORK VERY HARD DAY as I seem to have failed on all counts lately.

Yesterday my brain was sushi before I even arrived at work, due to throwing up breakfast whilst trying to clean my teeth. Involuntary bulimia is really no fun. Sorry, TMI, I know. Went to work anyway, headache and all - took Panadol at work, survived but didn't work much. File from hell took my sushi-brain and turned it into jellied eels. (wonders: do actual real bulimics get headaches every time they throw up?)

Today, I was determined I would finish said file from hell. HA BLOODY HA!. I get to work, start on the e-m I owed [livejournal.com profile] kaige68 (okay, technically this is not work, but once out of the way, work was the plan!!!), then half-way through... computers go ape-shit, phones bite the dust. We are told: "It may take some time to fix this."

Permission granted after an hour for us all to go SHOPPING!!!!!!. "Don't hurry back!" seems to be the order of the day. OMG, I do get some breaks!!! In the words of Tom Petty: "Even the losers get lucky sometimes." So, 2 & 1/2 hours later, the two of us that took an office car (yes!) out to the local mall (some others went another direction and they aren't even back yet, a further 1 & 1/2 hour later!!!) came back laden down with many Xmas goodies for loved ones.

Someone was watching over me today - it's even our big department store's one day sale today only. Lots of bargains. *grin*

This makes me feel like one thing is totally obvious: I am not meant to work. Now, if I could just win a lottery to support me in this, life would be really wonderful. 'Cause lord knows, I don't have a rich husband, or one who has the potential to earn enough that I don't have to work, dammit. He is awfully good at housework though *smiles thankfully*, and some other useful stuff, which we won't go into just now!

Nearly time to go home now. Not a stroke of work done. Not one. Not even half of one. Bloody brilliant!
haldoor: Kaige and I like to jump off bridges one after the other; not always in the same order (sawyer)
Well. Done two jolly posts already from work today, so why am I doing a third from home, you ask? Well, must put a record of the work "do" in, and a couple of interesting TV watches over the weekend to mention. So don't go here if you aren't interested...

A couple of Kiwi photos (not great quality, but them's the breaks) under here too, if you're at all curious as to what excitement befits a Kiwi work do )

Thanks, [livejournal.com profile] legomyarrow, from whom I stole this lovely thing:

Dear Santa...

Dear Santa,

This year I've been busy!

In January I farted in an elevator (-6 points). In August I got in line at the supermarket at the same time as someone else and I didn't yield (-8 points). Last Friday I helped [livejournal.com profile] niceandfluffy see the light (8 points). Last week I pulled [livejournal.com profile] mistry89's hair (-5 points). Last Monday I punched [livejournal.com profile] kaige68 in the arm (-10 points).

Overall, I've been naughty (-21 points). For Christmas I deserve a spanking!

Sincerely,
haldoor

Write your letter to Santa! Enter your LJ username:

Did you read that, Kaige? Get onto that story now, I deserve it! ;-)
haldoor: Kaige and I like to jump off bridges one after the other; not always in the same order (josh-touch)
Yes, it is. I have been dedicated to my cards/letters this week (well, apart from the absolute NEED to go into the EN RPG every day), and can now say they are finished, the letters are scrawled on (Newsletter with additional notes for all penpals & the handwritten notes for my fellow LJ flist lovelies), the envelopes addressed, stickers and return labels and stamps are all done.... I give myself the big tick!

Okay, never mind I still have to do the Kiwis & the Aussies in a few weeks... that's not as bad anyway, not so many letters, more just cards by themselves.

I just took LF out to post the cards, and it's a beautiful spring day in Auckland... hot for the time of year (maybe 22 deg C, about 75 deg F?), and it was nice, apart from the stroppy bugger not wanting to wear his hat. Ended up swapping with him near the end. He looked good in my floppy straw thingy, but I felt dorky in his Legionnaires cap with the sharks on... the thing a mother does to keep the kid happy. ;-P

general rambly-rave about the way it went and such-like found here )
haldoor: Kaige and I like to jump off bridges one after the other; not always in the same order (josh-touch)
Yes, I did it! I finished the newsletter that's going with many of the Christmas cards!!! I still have to print the copies out and do everything else, but I accomplished what I set out to do tonight, and that is something spectacular!!! Considering how panicked I was feeling earlier and how many things were just not going my way, it is truly an achievement! *Pats self on back*.
haldoor: Kaige and I like to jump off bridges one after the other; not always in the same order (orlando)
... so shouldn't even be doing this. Stuff it though. It's Monday morning and already I have too much to do, so why do any of it?

On a completely different note, I had a successful weekend with the Christmas cards. Still got to put in the inner words bit and "Merry Christmas" on the front, but no big deal. That'll take what, an hour? Didn't get my newsletters done though... *sigh*, so that's tonight's BIG JOB. Mustn't get distracted by MSN or any other bloody thing.

Another good thing? Started a great thread with Griffin on the EN RPG yesterday. Going very nicely. Rain, I love working with you, did I say?

OK, this was the last fluff around. Must do some serious work now.
